Additional Highlights

Cultural and Historic Significance:

  • The Da Lat to Trai Mat line is part of the Thap Cham - Da Lat cog railway, planned to be restored as a heritage and tourist route.

  • This segment, nearly 7 km long, is currently operational for tourist trains and is a favorite spot for young travelers and photography enthusiasts.

Upcoming Developments:

  • The Lâm Đồng Provincial People’s Committee has plans to develop and effectively utilize the Thap Cham - Da Lat cog railway for tourism by 2030, with a vision extending to 2045.

  • The restoration project is set to start in January 2025 and conclude by June 2029, reinstating one of the world’s first mountain cog railways, originally constructed in 1908 and completed in 1932.

Transportation Engineering:

  • The train operates on a cogwheel (ratchet) system, designed to navigate the steep and rugged terrains of the Lâm Viên Highlands.

  • This engineering marvel crosses coastal regions and highlands, linking Phan Rang, Ninh Sơn (Ninh Thuận) through Đơn Dương to Da Lat (Lâm Đồng).

Before the Night Service:

  • The Da Lat - Trai Mat train previously ran 1-2 trips daily and up to 2-3 trips on weekends.

  • Ticket prices ranged between 88,000 to 98,000 VND depending on the seat class, with only daytime services available.

This new nighttime service not only offers a unique travel experience under the stars but also enriches the cultural and historical appreciation of visitors through its cinematic presentations, making a trip from Da Lat to Trai Mat not just a journey, but a profound exploration of Vietnamese heritage.
