Tan Son Nhat Airport Unveils Terminal 3: A New Gateway for Domestic Travelers

Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art Terminal 3 (T3) on April 17, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Vietnam's aviation infrastructure. This new terminal is set to enhance the travel experience for domestic passengers and alleviate congestion at the bustling airport.

Terminal 3: Modern Design Meets Functionality

Constructed with an investment of nearly VND11 trillion (approximately USD 423 million), Terminal 3 boasts a contemporary design inspired by Vietnam's traditional "Ao Dai" dress. Spanning over 112,500 square meters across four floors and one basement, the terminal is equipped to handle up to 20 million passengers annually, effectively increasing Tan Son Nhat Airport's total capacity to 50 million passengers per year.

Key Features:

  • 90 check-in counters and 42 self-service kiosks

  • 20 automated baggage drop counters

  • 27 boarding gates, including 13 with air bridges

  • 16 baggage claim carousels

  • 25 security screening checkpoints

  • Dedicated VIP and business-class lounges

The terminal also includes a multi-story parking facility with integrated non-aviation services, enhancing convenience for travelers.

Airline Operations at Terminal 3

As of now, Vietnam Airlines operates select domestic flights from Terminal 3, specifically routes between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, as well as Van Don in Quang Ninh Province. The airline plans to gradually transfer more domestic flights to T3, excluding destinations like Con Dao, Ca Mau, and Rach Gia, which will continue to operate from Terminal 1.

Other airlines, including Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines, currently continue their operations from Terminal 1.

Seamless Transfers Between Terminals

To facilitate easy movement between terminals, Tan Son Nhat Airport has introduced a complimentary shuttle bus service:

  • Operating Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 AM daily

  • Frequency: Every 20 minutes

  • Route: From the transit hall of Terminal 3 to Gate A2 of Terminal 1

  • Eligibility: Passengers with valid boarding passes for connecting flights

This service is especially beneficial for travelers with connecting flights between different terminals.

Accessing Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is accessible via multiple routes:

  • From the City Center: Nam Ky Khoi Nghia → Nguyen Van Troi → Hoang Van Thu Park → Hoang Van Thu Underpass → Tran Quoc Hoan Road → Terminal 3

  • From the East: Pham Van Dong → Truong Son → Tran Quoc Hoan Road → Terminal 3

  • From the West and South: An Suong or Tan Ky Tan Quy → Cong Hoa → Tran Quoc Hoan Road → Terminal 3

Travelers are advised to check traffic conditions and allocate sufficient time for their journey to the airport.

  • Arrive Early: It's recommended to arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flight departures.
