Silk weaving

Silk production and weaving have been an essential part of Vietnam's social and economic development for thousands of years. With its rich history and culture, silk has become an integral part of Vietnamese life, featuring prominently in traditional costumes such as the áo dài.

Silk production has been passed down through generations and integrated into the daily life of many Vietnamese. Made from silkworms, which are nurtured on mulberry trees, silk is a natural and durable fabric that has been highly sought after for centuries.

During the later Le Dynasty, from the 16th to the 18th century, Vietnamese silk flourished and became a highly prized commodity for foreign merchants. They came from far and wide to trading hubs such as the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Pho Hien in Hung Yen province, and Hoi An town in Quang Nam province to purchase it in large quantities.

Today, Vietnam is one of the world's top six silk producers, the third largest silk exporter in Asia, and the sixth in the world. Despite its unique qualities, Vietnamese silk is not as well-known globally as other foreign brands, which concerns those who value traditional values and national pride.

With such a rich cultural history and unmatched quality, Vietnamese silk remains a national treasure, representing the country's deep-seated traditions and values.
